Vid is built to keep your footage on your own computer. This page lists everything that does leave it.

Your videos

Vid edits, transcribes, captions, reframes, dubs with its offline voices and exports on your computer. Your videos, transcripts and projects are stored in the app’s folder on your disk. We never receive them.

Features that use other services

Some features send data to a service you set up yourself, with your own account or key. They only run when you use them.

  • AI moment picks, translation and movie recaps send the transcript text, and for recaps a few small still frames, to Google using your own Google AI key. Google’s terms for that key apply.
  • Posting to TikTok, YouTube and Instagram sends the finished clip and its caption to the platform through the account you connected.
  • Posting to Telegram sends the finished clip to your channel through your own bot.

Licence checks

When you activate Vid, and at least once every 14 days after that, the app contacts our licence server and sends:

  • your licence key
  • a computer code: a one-way fingerprint of your computer’s ID, which cannot be turned back into the ID
  • your computer’s name, operating system and Vid version, so you and we can tell your computers apart

We keep these with your licence so it can be limited to two computers and moved between them. Your IP address is used to stop people guessing keys; we store only a scrambled form of it, for at most two days.

Updates

Vid checks GitHub for a new version when it starts. GitHub sees that request as it would any download.

This website

The site has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. If you request early access, we store your name, email, what you make, your computer type and the link you add, and use them only to decide on your request and reply to you. The site is hosted on Vercel and the licence database on Neon.

Deleting your data

Ask us, and we delete your access request and licence records. Uninstalling Vid and deleting its folder removes everything it kept on your computer.

Contact
